Uncertainty is a reoccurring theme, if not a key ingredient, to life on the road. Being outside of one's amenity leads to a sharp awareness and blocks out complacency. Preparation in the form of information and equipment cannot be neglected and allows one to mitigate risk and increase chances for reward. But practical preparation can never completely rid one of the uncertainty of a journey to a new place. Nor should it.
